Whether you asked for it or not, here are my ponderings about the big things in life.

The Imagineering Way: Ideas to Ignite Your Creativity - The Imagineers

The Imagineering Way is a book made for everyone because we all need a little more imagination. We could all use some more dreaming in our life. The Imagineering Way is a collection of thoughts, short essays, comics, and quotes designed to do what they're subtitle writes: ignite your creativity.

Have you ever read a book that just resonated with you? It's the right book at the right time and you believe will lead to the right results? That's how The Imagineering Way was for me. If you're in a rut, or if you're in the sweet spot of your routine, this could be the book for you. Somehow I was in both at the same time and it was perfect. If you can find it (it's discontinued, and most copies are sold out, but it's 2018, so you can find a way to find it), I would read it and hold on tight and listen to every word or don't (advice from the book).

Here are just a couple quotes that gripped me as I read:

"There is always a way to do something - one just has to look hard enough to find it." - Peter Steinman

"There answer to any problem already exists. If you don't find it, it will find you." - Michael Sprout

I think we're too easy to give up on something significant (mostly talking about myself but maybe you're the same way) on the hill of good enough.

Working in the creative world, I often hear,

"It's good enough; just send it out."

"It doesn't have to be perfect Stewart."

"You're your own worst critic Stewart; people loved it."

Or I say to myself,

"I don't want to look at it anymore, let's send it out."

"It's not what I want, but I know they'll approve of it, so it's good enough."

"It's not that bad, it's better than we've done in the past, so it's fine."

Yes, I have unreasonably high standards. Yes, I am my own worst critic, and I'm most often unsatisfied. Yes, it will be fine, but I want a little more resolve than this in 2018. I want to be happy with what I produce. I want to confidently say, "Yes, I made that" with a touch of pride in my voice.

So this year I'm resolving not to be satisfied with my status quo, and I'm going to push for the more, believing that if I don't find it, it will find me.

Here's something I will say about the book that's negative. I don't know if I would've finished it if I wasn't on a plane for multiple hours. I've been trying to read this book for a couple of months, and because there is no conventional flow, it became a "pick up when you have time" book rather than an "I can't put it down book. Maybe you'll have a different experience, but this was mine.  Also, if you have any book recommendation for me, I would gladly welcome them! The goal is 52 books this year, so any suggestion is welcome.
